Despite their popularity, truffles can still be a novelty and as such we have compiled a list of frequently asked questions and answers for the truffle newbie below.

What is the difference between a truffle and a chocolate?

With both offering a chocolatey moment of heaven, there are some key differences between truffles and chocolates. Paradoxically, truffles are a type of chocolate, but chocolate is only a flavour of truffle!

Chocolate is derived from the cacao bean and offers a flavour for cooking and baking with, usually in the form of sweet treats, drinks, and candies. By comparison, a truffle is a dessert delicacy that began in Europe and contains a ganache centre with a coating, either solid chocolate or powder. Ball-shaped and given as gifts for special occasions, there are all kinds of fillings available for all tastes and preferences.

Do truffles go off?

We guarantee at least a couple of months on our chocolate truffles however we would imagine they won't last that long!

Do truffles taste like chocolate?

Versatile in nature and flavour, a truffle is usually made with chocolate but can be flavoured to taste like pretty much anything you want! Love Cocoa offers a wide variety of flavours such as pink gin, raspberry champagne and salted caramel as well as the traditional milk chocolate. The ganache centre of a truffle can be infused with many different flavours, as can the outer shell. Any type of chocolate can be used to complement the other flavours, such as white chocolate with the raspberry champagne flavour. The outer shell is then usually covered in a coating - this can be nuts, candy, sprinkles or whatever else you fancy!

What makes a chocolate truffle a truffle?

Originating in France in the 1800s, the little balls of chocolatey delight were named truffles due to their similarity in appearance to the mushroom truffle.

Like many chocolate treats, alcohol is a key part of turning a truffle into a treat specifically for adults. Love Cocoa uses alcohol in several of their truffle recipes for the flavour it brings as well as that naughty feeling of treating yourself. Their raspberry champagne and pink gin flavours will be instant hits with the grown-up in your life. Alcoholic flavours can help bring that feeling of luxury and indulgence to anyone's day. Perfect for special occasions such as birthdays (everyone wants a chocolatey birthday), anniversaries (what better way to let a loved one know how you feel?), or just as a surprise!

When there are so many ways to consume chocolate, it can get a little boring. What better way to spice up your sweet treats or help a loved one indulge a little than with a box of high-end truffles? It's even better when they can be delivered right to your doorstep! No need to seek out a chocolatier or get messy trying to make them yourself, Love Cocoa can provide you with the chocolate hit that's been missing from your moments of secret indulgence. As a rare luxury, there's nothing better than the creamy centre and hard outer shell of a beautifully crafted chocolate truffle.
