Great Taste Awards 2017 Winner - Organic Chocolate Bars | Love Cocoa Press Release

Love Cocoa is among the Great Taste winners of 2017

Great Taste, the world’s most coveted food awards, which celebrates the very best in food and drink, has announced the Great Taste stars of 2017. Out of over 12,300 products to be judged, Love Cocoa was awarded two 1-star Great Taste awards, which means judges dubbed it simply delicious for its Gin & Tonic chocolate bar and also English Mint. We were also awarded a much coveted  2-star Great Taste award for our Maldon Sea Salt Dark chocolate bar which judges described as:

"An uncompromisingly bitter chocolate that is well tempered and shiny with a really soft salty flavour that speaks of salt flakes rather than crystals."
"A good glossy bar with a nice snap. The salt starts to come through as the chocolate melts - there is not a big burst of fruit but more a deep rich chocolate with very little astringency. A delicious little burst of salt."

Judged by over 500 of the most demanding palates, belonging to food critics, chefs, cooks, restaurateurs and producers, as well as a whole host of food writers and journalists, Great Taste is widely acknowledged as the most respected food accreditation scheme for artisan and speciality food producers. As well as a badge of honour, the unmistakeable black and gold Great Taste label is a signpost to a wonderful tasting product, which has been discovered through hours and hours of blind-tasting by hundreds of judges.

Great Taste is a fabulous concept and is a way for customers to know a product is going to be of high quality before they purchase. This is our first year in business and was the no.1 award program we wanted to enter. Having entered 6 bars, we won on 3 of them which is fantastic and is a great credit to all the team who helped develop the bars. We are thrilled that our Maldon Sea Salt chocolate bar won a 2-star award and will be making this in a smaller mini-bar concept which will allow more customers to taste the next generation of Cadbury family chocolate!”

James Cadbury, Founder

Recognised as a stamp of excellence among consumers and retailers alike, Great Taste values taste above all else, with no regard for branding and packaging. Whether it is gin, biscuits, sausages or coffee being judged, all products are removed from their wrapper, jar, box or bottle before being tasted. The judges then savour, confer and re-taste to decide which products are worthy of a 1-, 2- or 3-star award.

There were 12,366 Great Taste entries this year and of those products, 165 have been awarded a 3-star, 1,011 received a 2-star and 3,171 were awarded a 1-star accolade. The panel of judges included; chef, food writer and author, Gill Meller, MasterChef judge and restaurant critic, Charles Campion, author and chef, Zoe Adjonyoh, baker, Tom Herbert, and food writer and baking columnist Martha Collison as well as food buyers from Fortnum & Mason, Selfridges, and Harvey Nichols. These esteemed palates have together tasted and re-judged the 3-star winners to finally agree on the 2017 Top 50 Foods, the Golden Fork Trophy winners and the 2017 Supreme Champion.

Dark, rich creamy and utterly yummy

Omg love love love this... such a depth of flavour. Even my husband and children devoured this and they are not usually fans of dark chocolate. Next time I buy some I'm hiding it from them!

Delicious

Think this is the most delicious chocolate I have ever tasted, the flavour and the experience of eating are second to none.

Sea salt bar the best but disappointed in the gift card

The sea salt bar was to die for but have to say I was disappointed at the gift note...it was written messily on a scrap of paper and didn't include all the words...and was separate to the pop up card which I loved but I thought the card itself would have the writing.

Great concept but could be smoother

Finally someone has combined the two best ingredients in the world! I was super happy about this...and initially I loved it...u could taste the avocado...but then I found I couldn't continue eating them. Perhaps because they are quite filling (as avocados are)...but I think it's perhaps because it tastes quite powdery (as it's avo powder used)...I feel the recipe needs to be tweaked in order to make it smoother on the palate, perhaps with almond or coconut milk...but well done for finally thinking of the combo!

5/5
